COTABATO CITY, MALONG SA MAGUINDANAO SHOW


As the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) share this year’s celebration or observance of the National Arts Month which falls in the whole month of February. Thru its Bureau on Cultural Heritage in cooperation with the Association of Maguindanaon Artist was mounted a variety show that was performed by the Kulintang Cultural ensemble by Mr. Mayk G. Kamid.

Mr. Mayk G. Kamid is the first mindanaon who receive an award from the Philippine Aliw Awards Foundation in Manila as Philippines Best Instrumental Artist in 2006 and the Cotabato City’s most illustrious son in Culture and Arts in 2009.

Featuring his much improved choreographed traditional dances and music, highlighted by a malong fashion show that was performed by his new discoveries in the fashion world of handsome, husky and hunky male fashion models sharing the limelight with the seemingly animated mannequin lady fashion models.

The show was entitled “Malong sa Maguindanao” a showcase of Maguindanaon traditional songs and dances featuring the versatile Maguindanaon malong in a fashion show. This breakthrough in cultural and fashion world happened last February 27, 2011 at 6pm at the Shariff Kabunsuan Cultural Complex.

SAYAW PINOY 2011 LEG TOUR WOW COTABATO CITY


Sayaw Pinoy is the longest-running National Arts Month project. In addition to  2011 as the ninth year of the National Committee on Dance to hold the said project. Among the years, Sayaw Pinoy has provided the Filipino people an overview of the colorful tradition of dances and movements in the country.

The National Committee on Dance, led by Shirley Halili-Cruz, will be presenting Sayaw Pinoy as its contribution to the National Arts Month celebration. This has been part of the Philippine International Arts Festival (PIAF) for the past eight years and the Sayaw Pinoy 2011 will be touring 21 key areas nationwide, including Cotabato City.

The National Arts Month is annually celebrated as per Presidential Proclamation 683 in 1991 declaring February as the National Arts Month. Accordingly, it is known as “a time for nationalism and pride in being a Filipino” through carefully planned events for the preservation and enrichment of the Filipino expression in the seven arts.

Sayaw Pinoy 2011 leg tour wow Cotabato City by a world renowned Halili Cruz School of Ballet, Kislap Sining Dance Troupe of Philippine Normal University, Noel Garovillo Dance Co. from Koronadal City and the X-treme Squad of Cotabato City.
