COTABATO CITY: KUNG HEI FAT CHOI

Cotabato City celebrated the Chinese New Year last February 2, 2011 at City Plaza stage round  3pm to 6pm, in spite of the recent kidnapping of Adin Yu.

The commemoration was initiated by the City Government of Cotabato  to show support with our Chinese community and amalgamation of populace. The Chinese community provided the fireworks display.

Present on that event, I saw Mr. Osacar Tan Abing SR., Mr. Yu Beng Chua, Branch Head and Area Head of China Bank, City Councillors, Barangays and Local Officials, and City Administrator Atty. Frances Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi.

The variety show prepared by the City Government of Cotabato has cultural presentation and choral rendition by Cotabato City State Polytechnic College Chorale and SALAMINDANAO, modern dance and a song number. To officially end the program the sky was illuminated by a 30 minutes of fireworks display.

MAITUM BANGSI FESTIVAL 2011

Maitum celebrates the 4th Bangsi Festival last January 27 – 28, 2011. The celebration honors the fisher folk who capture bangsi (flying fish) for livelihood. Bangsi is a “marinated flying fish.”

Bangsi Festival ought to give more significance to its ONE TOWN, ONE PRODUCT (OTOP) for a purpose of promotion in boosting the confidence of its fisher folk aspiring for higher revenues as well as its tourism, diverse culture and economy.

This year’s festival theme is “Masaganang Karagatan, Yaman ng Mamamayan.”

My trip to Maitum in covering the Bangsi Festival is one of a kind and magnificent.  The festival is truly worth coming even its quite far from Cotabato City to General Santos City to Maitum, Sarangani.
Majority of the people in Maitum are Ilocano. I have tasted an authentic Ilocano dishes served by ate Beth Palma Gil, it was delectable indeed. People of Maitum are very warm and hospitable.
So next time, you should not fail to watch and experience the grandeur of Maitum Bangsi Festival.

Sugba-sugba sa kadalanan right after the street dance compitition.Grilled bangsi (flying fish).
Marinated Bangsi paired by salted egg and black rice. This is now my new favorite.

FIRE SAFETY TIPS IN OBSERVANCE OF FIRE PREVENTION MONTH

FIRE SAFETY TIPS

Have a plan and practice it. This plan should include fire drills. A fire drill can help you practice leaving your building quickly and safely. Don’t forget to talk about different ways you can get out.

During a fire, you should do the following:

· Use a fire extinguisher to put out small fires. You can also use water if the fire is not electrical or chemical. Do NOT try to put out a fire that you can’t control.

· If there’s a fire that is too big to put out, leave the building immediately. You might not have much time before the fire spreads, so don’t even stop to call. Once you’re outside and safe, you can use a cell phone or a neighbor’s phone to call. EMERBASE: 421-3911, OR YOUR NEAREST FIRE STATION, KNOW YOUR FIRE STATION TELEPHONE NUMBER.

· If your clothes catch fire, do NOT run. This could make the fire spread more quickly.

· Instead, stop, drop, and roll! In other words, stop, drop to the ground, cover your face with your hands, and roll back and forth until the fire is put out.

· If there is smoke in your house, cover your nose and mouth with a small cloth and stay low to the ground as you’re leaving.

· Smoke is very dangerous to breathe and difficult to see through. Since smoke naturally rises, you should crawl on your hands and knees to exit the building.
