Maitum celebrates the 4th Bangsi Festival last
January 27 – 28, 2011. The celebration honors the fisher folk who capture
bangsi (flying fish) for livelihood. Bangsi is a “marinated flying fish.”
Bangsi Festival ought to give more significance to its ONE
TOWN, ONE PRODUCT (OTOP) for a purpose of promotion in boosting the confidence
of its fisher folk aspiring for higher revenues as well as its tourism, diverse
culture and economy.
This year’s festival theme is “Masaganang Karagatan, Yaman ng
Mamamayan.”
My trip to Maitum in covering the Bangsi Festival is one of a
kind and magnificent. The festival is
truly worth coming even its quite far from Cotabato City to General Santos City
to Maitum, Sarangani.
Majority of the people in Maitum are Ilocano. I have tasted
an authentic Ilocano dishes served by ate Beth Palma Gil, it was delectable
indeed. People of Maitum are very warm and hospitable.
So next time, you should not fail to watch and experience the
grandeur of Maitum Bangsi Festival.

Marinated Bangsi paired by salted egg and black rice. This is now my new favorite. |
