THE SEARCH IS ON FOR THE AWIT NG COTABATO CITY CONTEST

This is a copy of a Project Proposal of the City Government of Cotabato. My purpose of sharing this even its too late of posting in my blog is to let the world know that we also had a project like this and that the initiative is coming from the LGU of Cotabato City. The deadline in submission of entries is today March 31, 2011.

It was the Rotary Club of Cotabato who commissioned the composition of the Awit ng Cotabato which was then used as the local anthem for the Empire Province of Cotabato.  However, when it was divided into four (4) separate provinces, the anthem no longer suits the present set-up.  For their part, the Provinces of Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and Maguindanao have adopted a new provincial hymn or anthem for their respective areas.

The City of Cotabato, being a chartered city, remained independent from this, and was left as the only one place singing the old Cotabato Hymn or Awit ng Cotabato.

However, going through the lyrics of the song, it aptly applies to the then Empire Province and the city is not even mentioned anywhere in the song.

Being such, the City of Cotabato deserves to have a song of its own, hence, this proposal.

In addition, the proponent has had talks with the members of the Rotary Club who commissioned the song, and they too, upon realization of the need, posed no objection to the idea of Cotabato City having its own song.
